Annual Healthy Aging Clinics
Health is important at every stage of life but particularly as our pets enter their senior years. We want them living their best lives for as long as possible!
And our Annual Healthy Aging clinics are designed to do exactly that!
They are a comprehensive full body check-up for our healthy older patients with our team designed to pick up on any change early, which is when we can make the most positive impact for our pets.
Our Annual Healthy Aging clinics include
- A 30 minute appointment with one of our veterinary nursing team
- A full nose to tail hands on examination
- A dental check and tartar and gingivitis score
- Body Condition Score
- Muscle Condition Score
- Cognitive assessment and score
- Chronic pain assessment and score
- Faecal Score
- Comprehensive blood tests, looking at both internal organs and red and white blood cell levels
- In addition cats are given an in-depth kidney check and have their thyroid levels measured
- Blood Pressure monitoring – for our cats only
- Urine analysis
You will also have plenty of time to chat about any concerns you have and ask all the questions you wish!
How do I enrol?
You can be invited to take part by our vets or vet nurses after a vaccination or other health check-up.
You can also request to take part yourself but it is important to realise that this is for older pets who are healthy and not showing any significant signs of illness. Getting a bit stiffer and slower is ok but for more concerning symptoms, a different and more tailored approach is better for helping them in the most effective way we can.
What happens afterwards?
During the clinic our nurses will discuss their thoughts as they go along but after the clinic all the results will be analysed and one of our vets will contact you within 3 days to let you know what they say and with a plan as to what might be needed next.
We will most likely first send a report and voice message on Whatsapp and then we can call for a chat on the phone if you would like.
The next steps after the clinic will depend on the findings. If our team think that we need to start some treatment or investigate they will talk you through that.
But if your pet is given a clean bill of health, we do still want to keep an eye on them, because inevitably at some point things will change and we need to be ready and actively looking for those changes so we can give your pets the best possible care.
Which is why all pets enrolled in our Healthy Aging Clinics will also receive a free 6 month review appointment with our nurses and then we really encourage you to book their next clinic 6 months after that, hence the name ‘Annual Healthy Aging Clinic’!
